Voice Over Is A Craft

Voice Over Is A Craft

Great voice overs sound smooth, nice and easy when you hear them on TV or over the Radio. Don’t they?

Although, the amount of energy and artistic interpretation that goes into the work cannot be seen, it can be greatly felt. The power to evoke emotions and engage people via sound that can spur them to action is not as a result of ordinariness.

This is why I say that the art of voice-overs is a craft – a special and unique one at that.

Broadcasting and Voice-overs are communication media that involve the dissemination of information in video and audio presentations. However, voice-overs can be defined as Voice Acting! This involves the interpretation of a script within the context of a certain idea or mood. Good diction, apt expressions, and emotions, ultimate creativity, performance and delivery are the elements that are essentially roped into the art.

Unlike the case of broadcasting that makes use of broadcasters, the craft of voice-overs employ the services of voice actors / talents who perform and deliver a perfect rendition of the script they are provided with, in a required language.

Over the years, the voice over industry has become identified as a hub of an exceptional craft / service that brands cannot totally do without. This is why brands recognise the value of great voice over talents to bring life to words, engage consumers in any form of storytelling and deliver the voice over work to perfection.

These MVOs and FVOs (Male & Female Voice Actors) convey a particular message to audiences and create a lasting impact in their minds. Most of these actors / performers have the best of both worlds (do broadcasting and voice acting) but know when to draw the margin between them because they are two different skill sets.

Animation, TV / Radio Commercials & Imaging, Infomercials

Prompters, Audiobooks, Documentaries, Event Announcements and several others are aspects of the voice over craft that can be explored with one’s voice in different languages – local and international.

Just like any profession, one can also make a professional career from doing voice-overs. Errr… you may not agree, especially in this part of the world and I understand why, but it is very possible. Hehe!

The next thing you might want to know is this: it is one thing entirely to have a good voice for voice-overs and another thing entirely to use it like a pro! This means, you must have the zeal to make the best of the craft – be teachable, sign up for training, keep learning and don’t stop learning…

There’ll be subsequent blog posts on voice-overs so stay tuned guys! Now, we all need to understand that the art of voice-overs is a craft, not just any form of speaking.

Thanks for reading this blog. Are you interested in delving into the art of voice-overs for real? If you answered yes, then your curiousity is leading you to a creative and rewarding adventure! I guess we have something in common. One thing is certain though, that we must make the best of our VO Craft.

Xo!
